What is happening to law enforcement

I am a concerned citizen who doesn't understand why it is the police departments of Pembroke and Bryan County cant arrest someone and actually keep them in jail regardless if they are family or not. Pembroke has no legal system that works. The lawyers do their jobs but when it comes to the police department doing theirs you might as well go up to Lou Ann's and sit next to one of them and ask them to please go and do their job. We the taxpayers pay salary to serve and protect, not to sit and eat around the clock. It never fails, go through town at any given moment and all you see is police cars sitting at the restaurant while people speed through town, drugs are being sold on the street and the community basically knows that they don't have to worry about the presence of the law because they stuffing their face and filling out those uniforms. I am disgusted to live in Pembroke where i have grown up my whole life. Its pretty bad when you can't feel safe in your own community because the police officers aren't doing the jobs that we the taxpayers pay them to do. I think this town needs to fire the officers that are employed here and actually go through and hire those who are willing and able to stay in shape, do their job and not be related to anyone in the town because if you get in trouble all you have to do is call your relative and you can get off for murder because of it. This town's law enforcement and court system stinks!!!!! DO YOUR JOBS!!!

I, for one, am very much pleased with the presence of our police force in our city. They are much more visible on our streets at all times of the day and night. Sure, I see them at local eateries, but, my goodness, they have to eat, too. It sounds to me like you just have a bone to grind. Maybe it's because you have been on the wrong end of the law lately?

No i have not been on the wrong end of the law. I just cant stand the fact that there is corruptness in the system. My bone to grind is the fact that this town could do better if it allowed itself to. It could do better by not allowing family members who commit crimes to get off because they have family in the law. Get a DUI, call a cousin. Get arrested for drugs, call a family member. How are we as a society and as a legal system suppose to set an example, for those around us and for our children, that if you commit a crime or do something wrong you have to pay the price for that, no matter how big or small. Don't family matters get between what is right and what is wrong.

Dearest Chipmunk31321,

You are really all over the board. Maybe you should show some backbone and state exactly what your problem is and exactly who you are talking about. When you make such vague accusations you leave others to unfairly wonder about many of these officers family and family members. If you have facts about corruption then approach the council or sheriff or higher authority, if you just have speculation then just continue to post untrue comments and attempt to errode some of the support these officers have. How's that old saying go - With friends like you, who needs enemies?
Are they perfect, surely not, corrupt far from it.......

Vague, untrue comments only lends support to those, simple minded people who are willing to believe and repeat anything and stand for nothing.

Grow some backbone here, maybe state your name, start a revolution...

I get the feeling I see you around town most days and just so you are sure who I am and you can introduce yourself:

IAM
1REDSKIN
NOAH COVINGTON

My main point is the fact that it is unfair for an 18 yr old who has been pulled over and taken into jail for DUI to be free and driving because he has a cousin who is a police officer. How is he suppose to learn a lesson when he doesnt even get the opportunity to serve time for what he does and has done. i dont think it is fair to get off with a crime because you are related to the law. Whats the point in going to council with the issue when nothing is/can or will be done about it. They cant prevent this officer from keeping his cousin out of jail. This particular needs to serve some time so that he can see that he is invisible and can get away with whatever crime he commits.

its called due process. everyone is entitled to a bond, thats why we have laws in georgia. if you're unhappy with the state laws that govern us contact your state representative for they are the ones who represent the citizens of this state. if you're concerned with how local govt is run go to a city council or commissioners meeting. do not bad mouth these great officers with a bag over your face. try walking a mile in their boots. and in response to the 18 year old taken to jail, HE WAS TAKEN TO JAIL! its the courts decision to take his drivers license and hand down a sentence but it takes time for prosecutors and lawyers to take a case to court, its called preparation.if it was a case of corruption do you think the kid would have gone to jail? he did so the arresting officer did HIS JOB! next time instead of bad mouthing an officer take the time to thank him for working for less than average pay, working long hours, never seeing their familys, missing their kids events at school in order to maitain order in the county and to protect the life and property of the great citizens of this county. enough said!

continued....you shouldn't use your status of an officer of the law to get your family members off for any type of crime.

chipmunk31321 commented on Wednesday, Mar 10, 2010 at 17:06 PM

Not enough said!!!!!!!!!!I am a criminal justice student who is about to graduate and it is my intention to be in law enforcement. i know all about due process but when a person is taken to jail and the case does not go before a court because a family member was able to get him out who is a law enforcement officer it doesn't look good especially when the person taken to jail has a past stemming from issues with the law since he was a juvenile. If i said the name of the person i wouldn't be getting the retaliation from everyone in law enforcement and they would most likely understand, but in order to protect myself from any retaliation of law enforcement offices for stating my thoughts and opinions i will continue to keep my identity unknown. MY POINT IS!!!!It shouldn't matter who you are or who you know, you should still be faced to pay the price for a crime no matter how big or small it is!!!!!!!Everyone should have to pay the same price!!!!!!!That is what i feel equality in all areas of law is. You should not be singled out to get by with something because of who you are who you know!!!!I appreciate the law and respect those who honestly uphold the law and protect us BUT

I see it says that you are a criminal justice student. I take that to mean you have a knowledge of things through books, and no practical or applied knowledge on the topics of which you speak when you say you know all about due process. You also talk about being a taxpayer well if you don't already know most of the law enforcement in the area also live here so they are taxpayers too and help pay their own salaries. You say any day you can find the officers sitting in the cafe around the clock eating. Maybe you need to do more research the cafe is only open from 5a to 2p saturday through wednesday, and open only on thursday and friday nights till nine. There are no 24 hour a day restraunts in the Pembroke area. This whole thing sounds like you are whinning about you being wronged somehow. You give vague descriptions of knowledge you want people to believe you have but no facts. Here is some free advise until "YOU" personally work behind a badge and know what types of people and what we deal with on a daily bases maybe you need to refrain from talking on subjects you have no knowledge of. But you most likely won't take it and will be upset reading this because we who have the understanding of what really goes on not just reading about it may know more than you. So thank you and hope you enjoy reading this.
