Actually JT,
We don't have a budget at BCHS we have to raise or earn (gate) every dollar we spend. The facilities and fields are maintained by the BOE and we appreciate the job they do. As far as coaching slots the only sport that would really matter is football, because the rest of the sports are cut sports and the numbers are pretty close to the same when you look at both schools. For example Baseball we had 25 kids on the team at BCHS and RHHS kept around the same or a few more. Basketball teams usually keep similar numbers no matter the classifiaction. (track and Cross country don't cut but maintain similar numbers at both schools, I think) So do you think the county should give BCHS less coaches for coaching a similar number of kids? Also take into account that RHHS has more sports than BCHS. (Vollyball, Soccer, wrestling). So dolar for dollar the kids are getting the same. The only reason football is the exception is because very few football teams cut so numbers will be different as you go up in school population.
I think the hardest part is filling the slots we have at both schools. There is very little turnover in the county so we struggle finding places to put coaches. No one wants leave this school system so we have to wait for a spot and then find coaches to put there. Having coached at both schools I think things are pretty equal, as it should be.
Coach Dragon
Dollar for Dollar, how about the Poor Bus Drivers in Richmond Hill Compared to those in the North Bryan Area. Richmond Hill Drivers are Hauling more kids than ever, working more hours than ever, having to keep up with more paperwork on each child.
So this means they have more liability on their CDL's than ever and dollar for dollar they get the same pay as those in North Bryan. And the only thing they got was an increase in insurance premiums. Ya HUM BUG AND YES I AM SURE THEY ARE STILL GLAD THEY HAVE A JOB. And at last count they had right at the same number of buses running. Now question that.
How about Richmond Hill denizens quit complaining about everything? They have nicer facilities and a more affluent booster base and yet they feel more compelled to keep score than North Bryan residents. If North Bryan got butthurt everytime RH got something they didn't, this would be one heck of a busy blog site!
RB, North Bryan is growing too....and those bus drivers spend a lot of time on dirt roads on buses packed to the gills as well. Guess what? It's all proportional.
Hey PhxGal,Best look at the BOE Web site and look at the Transportation Routes for each end. Those posted are for o9-10 and I think you will see that there is a big difference in start times and finish times between the two and how many double loads RH buses have compared to NB and now with split school times, I've seen buses still out in Richmond Hill unloading at 445pm almost on a reg basis, But they do get the same pay.
RB they get paid per hour. So if they have to work longer they get more pay. The hourly rate is the same because there is no difference in driving a bus in either end of the county.
Could be wrong, but I believe each driver gets the same pay per month. It is based on years experience, not number of hours worked.
golfman you are closer to the facts. Bus drivers are paid by a flat rate salary by the state. The board divides it into 12 months and that is what the driver gets paid each month. Now each county can kick in more money if they want to supplement the driver more money. Now Bryan county BOE does have a number of years increase pay for the bus drivers, but really after talking to a unnamed source, you have to work 5 yrs to get a increase of like just less than 19.00 a month but the catch is if you started after the school year started the board does not count that year because you have to be driving full time the first day of school. Then they dont count the first year at all, because you have to work a year before for them to start counting you. so you can work up to 7 yrs before you can get your 5 yr increase and then it goes in effect in your 8th yr. Now the state counts you the first day you started working and that is how they figure your retirement. so if you started on say aug. 15, 2010 - 11 school yr. on the BOE calender you would not be eligible for your 5 yr increase till 2017-18 school yr.because school started before then, so they don't count that yr. then the next yr they don't count because you have to be there a yr for them to start to count you but as of aug 15 2017 the state has 7 rs on their calender. Now you can check it out if you would like but talk to the older drivers who have been there and they will all tell you the same then call the BOE Its public info. Now Smoke i do not know who told you they get paid by the hour but they were dead wrong.
