SPLOST & SPORTS again....
This post is a follow-up to an earlier post that I wrote about using a percentage of the SPLOST to bring our school sports programs up to date. I have been advised that SPLOST monies can be used to fund certain sports items. I believe that SPLOST monies were what built the Tennis courts at RHHS; if I am wrong, someone please correct me. Prior to voting on SPLOST, can we, the taxpayers get some type of committment by the Bryan County BOE that a percentage of the tax will be used to fund much needed projects for our school sports programs? Projects such as resurfacing the football field at RHHS with a proper grade, turf, and adequate drainage to prevent another Mud Bowl for Homecoming; Repairing the overflowing septic system at the football field that provided the RHHS Homecoming activities that "special fragrance", and updating the RHHS athletic training facilities with modern training equipment.
Please don't get me wrong, I think the little trees that were planted along the road BEHIND the school (I was told SPLOST funded these) are pretty and a nice touch, I'm just not sure that students received the maximum benefit that they could have with the trees over field (Football & Baseball) improvements.
If we can't get some sort of committment or plan on what SPLOST monies will be used to purchase/improve/support, I say vote "NO" on SPLOST this time and require a plan before changing your vote next time. Let me hear your thoughts.....It's YOUR money.
