Once again, Van Hunter is running for city council and is the obvious choice.

On January 3, 2006, "Mayor Davis called former Councilman Van Hunter to present an award of appreciation for Mr. Hunter’s service as Councilman and serving on the Planning Commission. Mayor Davis thanked Mr. Hunter for his service and dedication to the city. Mr. Hunter thanked Mayor Davis & Council for the award and said he would proudly display it."

Van Hunter has a proven track record and when considering his service on P&Z as well as city council he is the most qualified candidate running for his post.

Jimmy Hires was sworn in on NOVEMBER 15, 2005 and therefore has served on city council for approximately two years.

Van Hunter served eight years between City Council and Planning and Zoning. City Council from 2001 to 2005.

So if experience counts, do the math.

You want facts? Here are the facts. Yes Mr. Hunter was on the City Council and Planning and Zoning for those years, but did he SERVE? I believe not. He barely showed up for the meetings. Many meetings had to be cancelled because he did not show up. Did he get things done? NO! I asked him to see about things and he said, "I'll see to it tomorrow". Well tomorrow is right, because tomorrow is always a day away. I've heard about Mr. Hires' work and he's done plenty. He has seen to ditches getting cut for drainage and many other things. He attends all the meetings. He not only listens to people he takes ACTION. HIRES IS OUR CHOICE FOR CITY COUNCIL

First of all one missing member of P&Z or
city council doesn't stop the show. Secondly, take a look at the council minutes for 2006 and 2007. Hires was not present for the following meetings: 1/17/06, Special Meeting of 4/18/06, Regular meetings of 11/21/06, 1/9/07 and 2/6/07. The minutes on line end on 9/4/07. Cleaning out a few ditches in this city, with the drainage problems we have is like applying a band aid to a severed arm.

OH and another thing...I did the math...it's only 4 years experience. Only 4 in city council, and whatever in planning in zoning. That doesn't come to 8. If 4 years in planning in zoning, that means 4 in both. You can't add apples and oranges, you only get "fruit". Oh wait...is Van Hunter a "fruit"? I guess what you are trying to say is that he has experience in this business. So I guess you are saying that HE is the reason we are in this mess of extra houses? Richmond Place? Main Street? Oh, yes! Thanks much for straightening that out for us!

I believe just the ditches isn't the only thing Mr. Hires has done. Mr. Hires took a stand against the developers with Sterling Creek. If you look at the city council meetings, you can find that Van Hunter missed more than that for P & Z and City Council, plus I, too have friends that have told me that whenever requested of Mr. Hunter to look into things, he would never get back with them. Mr. Hires has the time for the people and will get back immediately with them. I like that in a person. If you are going to represent me, be approachable and be a working person for the people....and as for the ditches...that's more than a band aid in Richmond Hill, that's a cast on a broken leg.

Reaction to ESPLOST
October 25, 2007
In reviewing the online survey on ESPLOST, I think that the negative reaction is due to the fact that the tax payers of Bryan county are simply fed up with taxes in general. I find it amazing that the schools, counties and cities are so opposed Speaker Glenn Richardson's proposal ...
