This just went out today from the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools:
"A group of eighteen students and four chaperones boarded an aircraft at Savannah International Airport Monday afternoon to begin their trek down-under to Australia.
"These students comprise Savannah Arts’ award winning performance ensemble, the “Silver Winds. The ensemble-sized band will perform in Australia with four other high school groups over the next week, ultimately performing in the world famous Sydney Opera House. They are scheduled to return to Savannah just before midnight on July 7th.
"Led by their instructor, Mr. Michael Hutchinson, this group of exceptionally talented students has earned numerous awards and was selected to perform in Australia after an exhausting selection process. Only five musical high schools groups were selected from across the United States to travel to Australia for this command performance.
"School Board President Dr. Joe Buck and 6th District Board Representative Lori Brady were on-hand to wish the students well on their trip."
Too bad it can't be BRYAN COUNTY students enjoying this chance of a lifetime. If our superintendent had her way, they'd never go any further than the Georgia border. Is this what we want for our children? A vote for Carrol Ann Coleman or Candy Piper is pretty much a guarantee that we'll just get more of the same thing we've been getting for the last few years. They will NOT stand up to Dr. Brewer because she "hand picked" them to run on "her" board!
The only way to change things is to change our elected officials. Vote for JEFF MORTON and CHARLIE JOHNSON on July 15!
