A couple of days ago there was someone writing or should I say bashing Johnny Murphy. I've had some direct dealings with mr. Murphy and not all of them would I concider good but I will tell you this. He was the first developer to come into the South Bryan are with any sort of planned develoment. Before him we had these 100-200 lot developments with no planned infrastrucure what soever. I don't mean roads and drainage I mean setting aside areas for conveniences and neccessities like shopping centers, schools, golf courses. All of the things to make This area more than just a collection of housing developments. Was what he did all right no, but did he continue to learn from his and all the others mistakes, absolutely. yeah he wanted his vision to be lived out so he had some strict guidelines. People around here do and will complain about 144's morning and evening traffic for a log time, but Johnny did try to move some of the traffic to the avilable roads more than anyone else before him, and don't even get me started on Rayonier. What kind of company wants praise for their community involvement after selling off all these smaller tracts throughout the years knowing that the buyers were not going to take this traffic into concideration? They sold enough of their holdings to make their investors happy. International paper knew they were one of the largest land holders in the Savannah area and went about selling off their lands with a very high since of responsibilty, starting with the Landings and continuing with Berwick, New hampstead, Pooler. Those are projects that large land holders have a responsibilty to put forth. I'm not Johnny's defender but I am willing to make sure people realize the good he did.
